20230714T1345 20230714T1515 America/Los_Angeles Interactive #5: Deeper Than Color: Liberation Psychology in Practice

Deeper Than Color is a team of diverse clinicians who specialize in providing social justice oriented psychotherapeutic support. We are rooted in the belief that to heal and thrive, we must acknowledge the harm caused by complex systems of oppression and the strengths that grow from our history and cultural heritage (Duran and Gonzalez, 2008). We are committed to mental freedom and the happiness that comes with it. This discussion will focus on the presenters' experiences as members of a group practice that specializes in working with Black people and other People of Color and their experience working in a space that acknowledges that therapists of color also deal with oppressive forces in their lives. We aim to engage the audience in a discussion of their lived experience as practitioners, academics, and policymakers, hoping that we all can share our experiences, balancing the need to care for communities on the margins while trying to live and thrive on the margins ourselves.
