There are four ways for participants to present at the conference. Research symposia (90 minutes) consist of 3-4 stand-alone research presentations around a central unifying interest. Proposals may or may not include a discussant to provide summative remarks. Interactive panel discussions (90 minutes) consist of 3-5 participants who have unique and important perspectives on a topic important to the psychological study of ethnic minority issues. The emphasis is on interactive discussion among the panelists as well as the audience without slides. Panel discussions should include a moderator. Participants can also submit an individual research paper (15 minutes) that will be bundled with 2-3 other individual research papers that address a similar theme to create a symposium (90 minutes). Finally, individual participants will also have the opportunity to present their research findings via poster sessions. Posters will be grouped according to their research theme.
All presentation proposals are due March 17, 2023 at 11:59pm PDT.
Participants will be notified by April 28, 2023 as to whether their proposals have been accepted.
Research Symposia
A symposium shall consist of a Chair who will provide a brief introduction to the theme of the symposium, followed by 3 or 4 presentations. Each presentation should be presenting independent research findings that are related to the theme of the symposium. The symposia may or may not end with a discussant. Thus, possible suggested formats include 3 presentations plus 1 discussant or 4 presentations. The total time allotted for each symposium is 90 minutes with at least 15 minutes set aside for audience questions. All presenters MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include an overall title for the symposium (10 word limit) as well as an integrative summative abstract for the symposium (200 word limit). Proposals must also include a title (10 word limit) and summary/abstract (200 word limit) for each presentation. The first-author of each presentation is expected to present at the in-person conference if accepted. Potential presenters will need to first create an account on this platform to submit a proposal for the conference.
Interactive Panel Discussion
Each interactive panel discussion shall consist of between three to five panelists as well as a Chair who will serve as the moderator for the panel discussion. The chair will provide a brief introduction to the theme of the session and introduce the panelists. Each panelist will provide a few brief introductory remarks. The chair will then lead a discussion among the panelists, and the audience will have an opportunity following the discussion to respond to the issues raised, introduce additional questions and comments, as well as engage in a moderated discussion with the panelists. The total time allotted for each Interactive Panel Discussion is 90 minutes with at least 50 minutes of this time set aside for interaction with the audience. All panelists MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include an overall title for the Interactive Panel Discussion (10 word limit) as well as a summative abstract for the panel discussion (200 word limit). The summative abstract should include: detailed topics to be discussed; sample questions; and a plan for including audience participation. Potential presenters will need to first create an account on this platform to submit a proposal for the conference.
Individual Research Paper
Individual research papers shall consist of a report of findings from a scholarly study addressing an area of interest to the conference. Research papers are 15-minute presentations highlighting the key aspects of a research study with PowerPoint slides. Three to four individual research papers will be bundled together by conference organizers to create research symposia centered around a common theme. The total time allotted for the research symposium is 90 minutes with at least 20 minutes of this time set aside for audience questions. A chair will be appointed by the conference to keep time and moderate the session. All presenters MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include a title for the paper (10 word limit) as well as an abstract for the paper (200 word limit). Potential presenters will need to first create an account on this platform to submit a proposal for the conference.
Poster Presentation
A poster presentation provides the opportunity for presenters to share key research findings related to the psychological study of ethnic minority issues in a graphic or visual format and engage in discussion with conference attendees. Posters will be grouped by theme whenever possible. At least one presenter MUST BE registered for the conference. Proposals include a title for the poster (10 word limit) as well as an abstract for the poster (200 word limit). Potential presenters will need to first create an account on this platform to submit a proposal for the conference.
