This symposium will focus on examining systems of oppression using an intersectional lens for LGBTQ+ racial and ethnic minoritized groups in the U.S. While research on marginalized groups is continuously growing, recent calls for improvement of the field have triggered recent and innovating studies exploring impact and implications for multiple forms of oppression. This symposium highlights four independent and diverse studies carried out by psychologists with expertise on intersectional research. The first study explores the impact of racism and heterosexism on school persistence attitudes among LGBTQ+ college students of color. The second study addresses use of alcohol and drugs in Latinx youth sample and its association to support systems and intersectional oppression. The third study explores implications among a group of sexual minoritized women around internalized homophobia and shame related to sexual assault experiences. Finally, the four presentation will address specific health risk connected to anti-queer prejudice based on location. Our presenters will provide recommendations for the field in an effort to honor and bring light the experiences of people often push to the margins among systems of oppression such as QTBIPoC.
